I’m pretty slowpoke.jpg here. I saw this earlier but then I started looking for what kind of ratings that Geass was getting on Adult Swim anyway and I got massively sidetracked and… yeah.
As you can see on their TV scheduling, the Geass dub on Adult Swim is being moved from a 1am airing to the 5am airing. Stay up until 5am to watch Geass dub orrrrr just watch it on their webstream? Uhm, lol… Some of their promo materials for Moribito included something about them thinking Moribito would fail on TV due to webstream pirating. I’m guessing they think the same of Geass, as they’re lumping them together in the 5-6am block? Yet last rating remark I saw for Adult Swim Geass was that it was around Bleach’s ratings~ (Hey I still can’t find this figure anywhere, I just remember reading it somewhere. Fuck.)
Anyway, does anyone know where to actually get Adult Swim tv ratings? People are crying, “This will be the death of Geass on US TV” etc, 5am is called the graveyard slot for Adult Swim programming. Also common sense kicks in because of the +4hr time change - It’s always easier to stay up until 1am than it is to stay up until 5am or wake up before 5am. But I’m also kind of like, “…….” because people were up in arms about it being in a 1am time slot to begin with, saying there’s “no way” it would get ratings there or gain any exposure to begin with. I’m curious to compare the before and after the slot change, but that would require being given more ratings from Adult Swim than simply the top 3 shows. :p
3.9% on ep 1
FujiKei + YAOI + Cake is doing better than Geass in ratings!
And now, TV Ratings 2: Orange (and Schneizel maybe?!) = Ratings.
For a while I’ve been lol’ing around IRC and saying that if R2 wants ratings, they should bring back Orange. Apparently I know my shit pretty well.
Kantou %’s from 2ch:
Episode 11: 3.2%
Episode 10: 2.1%
Episode 09: 3.3%
The 3.x%+ ratings are high for R2… In Kantou, R2 has not experienced a 3.x% rating since episode 01. Anyway these two 3.x% episodes had Orange in them!
Honestly, the lack of Orange in episode 11 made me RAGE, and I concluded that they put all of his scenes in the preview on the purpose to cocktease you and try to get more people to tune in next week. Wouldn’t it be sad if this was actually the case…? Will episode 13 (where Orange is supposed to come to Ashford [and hopefully destroy Ashford]) and episode 14 (where Orange is supposed to show up in Siegfried), draw in more numbers?
But more realistically, there was no hint that Orange would be in 09, so what might have caused the viewer spike then? Schneizel, perhaps? It was revealed in NewType far earlier that shit was going down in ChinaLand and that Schneizel was involved~ (I can dream can’t I?)
Geass R2’s ratings are not exactly anything to brag about. So far, they’ve hovered between high 1.x% to low 3.x% of the viewers in Japan. This causes people to freak out and think the show is doing shitty in Japan etc! I would like to point out though that those 1.x% - 3.x% ratings are not really “complete”. There are two figures floating around, one from the Kantou region and another from Kansai. If you combine them together, it looks better. ;p
It’s true that those ratings aren’t exactly flattering, but uh, what did you expect? Just because anime comes from Japan does not mean they draw in like 50% of Japan every week. It’s not uncommon for a show to have a non-primetime broadcasting time. I’ve seen some mention that they don’t feel Code Geass will do well on Adult Swim because it’s on at a fairly late time, but that’s similar to how Japan aired season 1 as well.
As for R2’s ratings in specific, I recall reading they are actually better than S1’s from the Thursday late night timeslot. The show is doing good for Geass, but not so good for the timeslot. Some factors associated with this are that it’s a new timeslot and that you can view it on BIGLOBE’s webpage if you have a JP IP. Regardless, I don’t believe it’s because Geass is “too intelligent”.
Edit: Decided to make a new poll based on this.
It has been a long-running saying of mine that if SunRise wanted to make Geass the most awesome show ever, they should make a show called “Schneizel, Xingke and Orange’s Excellent Adventures”. (Also, yaoi.)
At a mighty 3.3%, R2 09 is currently R2’s best viewer pull in it’s new timeslot! AND GUESS WHAT IT HAD IN THIS EPISODE?!
