Reincarnated as Lovers

R2 13 made me think of something from the Geass DVD mags. In the DVD magazines, there are “Best Phrase Awards” narrated by Milly and Shirley where they tell you what viewers voted the top 10 best quotes from each half of the series. One of the best phrases from DVD Mag 02 is Shirley’s “but the morning will still come amirite” from S1 14. During the commentary, the caricature narrator of Shirley says that Lelouch wanted to tell Shirley he hopes they’re “reborn as lovers”. I thought, originally, this was just some Shirley fangirlism, and it would never, ever mean anything relevant. But after R2 13… D:

I’ve never really thought much about Lelouch and Shirley as a couple. She always seemed like some kind of lightning rod of bad luck when it came to Lelouch. It was kinda like… from the viewers PoV, she’d be much better off if she stayed the fuck away from him, and thus Lelouch Geassing her to forget him was really probably for the best. Honestly, the way she wound up re-re-re-re-re-remembering (due to Geass) and still wanting to be with him makes C.C.’s “THIS SHIT WILL ISOLATE YOU” kind of ironic.

Return of the BABA Theater

The Geass R2 DVD’s are going to include a flash feature called “帰ってきたBABA劇場” (Return of the BABA Theater, I guess). The BABA Theater is a flash short that was included with the Geass DVD Magazines 01 and 02.
