Believe in the heart of the cards
Schneizel, there’s way to win this series: Sit on the sidelines, let Lelouch and Dad kill each other, then come in at the last moment and be like “fuck yeah I win by default”. Srsly. He could make this like Hamlet and be Prince Forbitinas. But it looks like Schneizel wants in on Curly and Lelouch’s super fun awesome times with Geass. Schneizel’s behavior indicates that he’s setting himself up to be fucked in the ass a few times over by the end. Not that I mind of course, Yaoi fangirl that I am.
R2 17 showed that despite his Geass researching, he hasn’t really discovered much. Cornelia with one arm and no resources has been doing better than him at this shit, though he hasn’t had a year to fully devote himself to doing that since it’d be treeeason against Dad. If Lelouch had gone, “Sure big brother I’ll trust you”, I assume he would’ve played the Nunnally card to interrogate Lelouch to find out info about Geass. He does seem to have heard about Lelouch’s power before, as Guilford’s betrayal didn’t seem to shake him much, and he commented about not having any choice but to believe now, a comment about Lelouch’s power. By the end of the episode, he’s attempting to emotionally blackmail Suzaku into telling him more about Geass, plus drop Freya on Tokyo. (I really hope no one thought that Canon’s comment about, “If you had just told Schneizel this from the start, this shit never would’ve happened” was sincere.)
Even though he knows jack shit about Geass and what is actually going on behind the scenes, at the end of R2 17 he seems pretty confident that everything has fallen into place for him now and he’s got the cards in his hands. That’s quite a bit of faith in magic vacuum implosion whatever atom bombs and that “Damocles” thing he spoke of before. Believe in the heart of the cards, Schneizel!
Maybe his faith placed in Freya is well placed? Perhaps the immortality code is bound to the body rather than magical spiritual fairies who heal you, so if he nuked the shit out of Charles, he wouldn’t be able to regenerate since his omg atoms don’t exist anymore? KEIKAKU DOORI or awesomely timed coincidence for Schneizel? I say “awesomely timed coincidence” because those two developments, Freya’s success and Curly becoming immortal, happened in the same episode.
I mentioned Freya being like an IMMORTALITY CANCELER before in a joke ending theory post, but I’ve started to actually consider it just because I’m unsure of what else Freya would be doing in the big picture of things in Geass. Taking out Curly would also mean it’s a Lelouch vs Schneizel finale, and it has been said before that he’s supposed to be Lelouch’s TRUE ENEMY etc.
Aside from killing a fuckload of people, what all does he hope to gain by using Freya? From one standpoint, he’s trying to end this war shit ASAP. Fair enough. He has been very “lets just show force and not really be mean” when it comes to war and conflict. This isn’t because he’s like Geass’s Harry Truman, this is all so he can ignore the world and go figure out what Dad is up to. But when he puts on his public manipulation face, he’ll justify this as some radical 10mil death scare tactic to make the Black Knights lay down their weapons so they can end this silly fighting. (…haha I just thought an awesome post idea: “What Schneizel says and what he means”) Based on the Korean spoilers and the TV summaries, his immediate goal is just to break up the Black Knights, or possibly the UFN as a whole. He’s also sending an envoy, probably Canon, to go give the Black Knights the magic recording which comes with an offer to trade Lelouch to the Empire for Japan’s independence. After he’s dropped a bomb on them and killed 10mil of the countrymen they were trying to liberate, on top of their mistrust and the recording contents, it should be “duhhh” about why the Black Knights are going to take him up on his offer. This obviously wouldn’t've gone over so well if it wasn’t for the recording contents and their mistrust, so its almost like he’s just dropping by when something is already hopeless and reaping from the benefits. Kinda how his involvement the Black Rebellion went.
…maybe I’m totally wrong about him being an asshole who wants to be involved in the grand scheme of things and he will actually win the series by doing exactly what he’s been doing.
Although Schneizel is pretty lost about Geass power, he seems to have correctly made the link between Suzaku and Zero, plus that comment he made to Canon in R2 16 seemed like he predicted what the UFN was going to do beforehand. I’m not really surprised he didn’t seem like he knew who Zero was before R2 17. flow had a sensible point about how the royal family in general should probably have a clue about Lelouch since it’s obvious that Nunnally didn’t survive by herself (unless Curly Geassed them all to believe something else), but looks like this is not the case.
tl;dr = The way I look at it now, Schneizel doesn’t know much about the situation but he thinks he does, and that’s that.
Until we find out what the hell Damocles is, I think I’m done writing any remotely srsbsns sounding speculation about him.
