Schneizel in the middle
Chess is a really shitty game to use as symbolism in Geass. It paints the world as a black board with stains of red blood, upon which black and white pieces move.
…that was way too srsbsns sounding. Anon from the Wind Valley is pretty much correct; I’m going off the deep end here. Oh well.
What I was going to get to eventually above is that there’s this thing called GRAY AREA and Geass has a lot of it, but Geass constantly uses chess, a game which has 2 distinct sides/colors to it. I propose there is a 3rd side/color/faction. Lelouch is the black w/the Black Knights, Charles is the white w/Britannia, and Schneizel is our middleman. I guess we’ll call him the gray, aligned with… uh, atom bombs. Fuck yeah. Oh hey, wouldn’t the smoke from the bomb usage be gray anyway? Symbolism yay.
Forget any imagery about Schneizel being the white king, it’s all a dirty lie. To his father and his brother’s white and black, he is effectively gray, sometimes because he’s in the middle, lodged between them, or because he shows a mixture of the 2 of them. Even though he’s with Britannia, like daddy, he’s also kind of “mehhhh dad wtf”, like Lelouch. Though he is regarded as being both GAR and fabulous, he’s not quite as GAR or as fabulous as the other 2, providing a mixed state of being Fabulously GAR. Fuck, he’s even in the middle in things like age, height, and hair color! Actually he’s like all of 1 inch shorter than his dad, BUT IT’S STILL 1 INCH SHORTER AND PUTS HIM IN THE MIDDLE OKAY.
What further sets him in the middle is that he doesn’t really get into any extremes compared to the other 2. He gives off a “50% is good enough I guess” impression. It’s like, “Well winning is okay… sometimes… BUT YOU SHOULDN’T DO TOO MUCH OF IT AMAGAWD PEOPLE WILL LOSE HOPE AND THEN THEY Q_Q”. And he tells Clovis, “Well SOMETIMES a ruler has to be an asshole” which implies that SOMETIMES you also shouldn’t. So 50% of the time its okay to win, and 50% of the time you should be an asshole to your people? Even his outlook on the EU and China involves only half of a whole: “I pwnt 50% of the EU” and “We can take over 50% of China through just lulzing it”. The only time we’ve seen him give a 100% is when he’s 100% shocked about Euphy killing people.
His actions in the R2 China arc further show some 50% nonsense. “I am 50% okay with Zero, whatever. Hey man, welcome to the reception. You can stay for this 50%, but don’t make the 100% by coming to the wedding tomorrow” and “I’m going to give like 50% srsbsns into this chess game! ILLEGAL MOVE KEKEE” and “I kind of want to blow the fuck out of the Ikaruga but I also kind of don’t”.
If he goes batshit insane, is he only going to be like 50% insane? I would love for him to go completely, super awesome insane crazy guy, but I’m basically writing this because I’ve decided to acknowledge that he doesn’t really go to any extremes, thus… despite how mad sexy shlickable crazy Schneizel would be, it would almost seem out of character for how 50% effort they’ve made him. Maybe it’s due to his self-imposed safety restraint, or rather, his own self-imposed Sword of Damocles hovering over his head, that he only gives things his half-effort? If Schneizel wants to win the series or even attempt to win it, he needs to take the safety lock off of his personality and go for the 100% A+++ Gold. Alternatively, he could remain on the bench, let dad and Lelouch kill each other, then roll in and crown himself 99th Emperor at the end? Well, maybe not. He might want to get 50% involved in their bullshit!
On the topic of him being the gray king, I find this INTERESTING-ish because I recall C.C. being described as the gray witch before… Is Schneizel to Britannia what C.C. was to the Black Knights before she lost her memory?!!1/!?1?! D::: She had some MISTERY AGENDA that no one knew for a while, but was working with the Black Knights as she just kinda ended up with them. Also has some magical connection to Marianne. She was working with them, she followed their notions, she participated with their crap, she took over when Lelouch wasn’t there, but was she really “with” them in that she embraced what the hell they were about? Schneizel shows some similarity in his “relationship” with Britannia. I mean… in one corner we’ve got the Emperor is the one going “Hell yeah, war! BRING IT ON, LELOUCH!” while Schneizel has been like, “CHRIST, guys 50% is okay!!1 Just negotiations and scare tactics should work fff” And this is coming from who I presume is the 2nd most powerful guy in the Empire? (Seeing as how he has also now on 2 occasions taken over shit in Britannia while his father was gone) A little conflict of interests there between the guy on top and the guy right below him, no? He might be there with the Empire, and might be working for it, but is he really acting for what his father is trying to accomplish, and was C.C. really there to help them gain Japanese independence? This is held down a bit by how Schneizel doesn’t seem to have the type of relationship to his father that C.C. has with Lelouch. OH WELL. I’d still say the comparison of their gray whatever-ness might possibly sort of kind of stick on and hold here by a tiny thread. Schneizel memory loss end confirmed? Or perhaps the 2 gray pieces being shown together in the 4 face invert multi-color rainbow spam before the logo in OP2 is MEANINGFUL?!
…but this entry is, in reality, pretty much a lost cause seeing as how he’s supposed to be “Lelouch’s main enemy” (Though, honestly, I’m not sure how much I actually believe this statement, Mr. Taniguchi) which would effectively seat him back as the white king no matter what I think. Baaaw. Or maybe it’s just a joke: To Lelouch, who takes up action, a person like Schneizel, who often takes up inaction yet sits in his command chair, is something Lelouch looks at as insulting, and thus a type of enemy? Its like hating that type of person, then making all people like that your enemy?! On the other hand, Lelouch is kinda fighting a personal battle which he as combined with a world goal. Schneizel, the chess fag he could never beat, could be seen as his personal enemy, while Charles is the enemy of the world (seeing as how he wants to destroy it)? Thus, both Schneizel and Charles are the white king (Shit, Britannia’s cheating at chess). Though, we’re all still waiting to see what exactly Schneizel’s going to do with atom bomb-tan and what the hell Damocles is…
The way I see the battle lines being drawn atm include these possibilities:
- Schneizel v Curly (Britannia divided), Lelouch middleman (Foreshadowed in the op.)
- Lelouch v Curly, Schneizel middleman (Unlikely, but it would fit how they’ve actually “characterized” Schneizel until now, but Geass likes to kick its previously established things to the ground.)
- Three way blitzkrieg (Britannia divided)
- Schneizel and Lelouch temp alliance v Curly (Because 50% of the time, you might need to work your enemies? :p But this is ultimately going to be dependent on what Schneizel’s involvement was to Marianne’s death.)
Rambling post is rambling~
Of course, the real important question here is that if he uses this wishy washy 50% outlook for everything, then when he fucks Canon in the ass, does he only put his dick in 50% of the way up his ass or what?

I don’t have a feeling that Schneizel is power-hungry person. It’s just that except for Lulu who’s been considered dead for years, all other Charles’ children are pretty worthless. Cornelia is good at fighting, but that’s it, first prince is a total joke at all, etc.
So, Schneizel doesn’t have much choice other than being the prime-minister and running errands for his father who’s mainly interested in mystic stuff. All hi-tech development might be just a relief and source of fun. After all, he’s pretty consistent in gathering “unusual” people at his science department.
Thus, it can be that he doesn’t care about the things all that much. The current state of things is fine with him, so he just makes sure that the entire thing doesn’t crumble and bury him underneath. Sort of “I should do my work, but I shouldn’t overwork myself” kind of thing…

Nunnally has been plotting for years to control Lelouche from the shadows, so that’s one more child.
Wait oh no maybe Charles is working with Nunnally and Schneizel will need to team with Lelouche to defeat them and they need nukes because nightmares can’t kill Nunnally for some reason? It makes complete sense! Just like the rest of the series!

No no, anon here actually has made quite a valid point. You see, although eating the white queen won’t win you the game, the piece itself is the most dangerous of the bunch, ready to fuck anyone that tries to come near, but remain hidden by the other pieces when duty doesn’t call. This is the case because he plays the role of an fabulously gar prince who sits on his throne most of the time, but in reality he’s actually pointing nukes at a number of unfortunate cities. Lethal silence.
Also, if Charles is the agressive seme king that wages war and fucks with everyone openly, then Schneizel must be the passive uke queen that silently points nukes at others and lulz to himself.
What about Canon? He’s obviously the white horse because you gotta “ride” them when going for the ass. Also because horses don’t move straight, just like his personality and dutiful role as the uke.

He puts his dick all the way up, but he doesnt’ give Canon the reacharound, thus satisfying the 50% rule and also establishing himself as the top and Canon as the bottom.
