TV Ratings

Geass R2’s ratings are not exactly anything to brag about. So far, they’ve hovered between high 1.x% to low 3.x% of the viewers in Japan. This causes people to freak out and think the show is doing shitty in Japan etc! I would like to point out though that those 1.x% - 3.x% ratings are not really “complete”. There are two figures floating around, one from the Kantou region and another from Kansai. If you combine them together, it looks better. ;p

It’s true that those ratings aren’t exactly flattering, but uh, what did you expect? Just because anime comes from Japan does not mean they draw in like 50% of Japan every week. It’s not uncommon for a show to have a non-primetime broadcasting time. I’ve seen some mention that they don’t feel Code Geass will do well on Adult Swim because it’s on at a fairly late time, but that’s similar to how Japan aired season 1 as well.

As for R2’s ratings in specific, I recall reading they are actually better than S1’s from the Thursday late night timeslot. The show is doing good for Geass, but not so good for the timeslot. Some factors associated with this are that it’s a new timeslot and that you can view it on BIGLOBE’s webpage if you have a JP IP. Regardless, I don’t believe it’s because Geass is “too intelligent”.

Edit: Decided to make a new poll based on this.

Well, Geass is doing noticably worse in the afternoon timeslot than Ayakashi Ayashi in a similar timeslot, and that one got cancelled for low ratings after 25 episodes. Late-night shows are expected to have low ratings, so it’s no wonder season 1 didn’t have brilliant ratings, but the expectations are different for the primetime shows.

Supposedly the re-broadcast of season 1 in the exact same timeslot as season 2 is now using got better ratings, too, although I haven’t seen the exact figures on that.

    Ah, here we go:

Search for “ギアス再”. According to that, season scored a 3.0% at its lowest, and went all the way up to 4.9%.

“Season 1″, even. My keyboard-usage is not so FABULOUS today. Either way, it’s not the timeslot that’s the problem here.

    Laff @ the re-run ratings.

It’s quite ironic that R2 is faring worse than Ayakashi Ayashi when Geass S1 lost the 6pm/Sat bid to Ayakashi Ayashi. 8D

It is, actually, if you consider the other stuff.

    But I don’t think you will. :)

Obviously it’s too intelligent and people don’t really care for HIGH MAINTENANCE SHOWS.

You change a time slot from Saturday to Sunday (where it’s replacing a news program, of all things, and nothing anime-related at all, since it’s a time slot with zero anime history) and it’s “similar” all of a sudden?

You posted a link, but I’ve read that re-run was only in Kansai and not in Kantou.

Apparently R2’s Kansai ratings are much better than the ones in Kantou, in part due to the re-run you speak of. Wonder if you’ll take that into consideration?

Also, the re-run of season one was in Gundam 00’s time slot, not in R2’s…it’s not the “same exact time slot”.
